The Very Most Mini-Tour
In January, the Very Most is heading out with one of our favorite
people and musicians Kris Doty for a mini-tour. We'll be playing
Kennewick and Portland from January 6-8. For more details visit

The Very Most MySpace Page
OK,
so we're finally on the MySpace bandwagon. It's pretty smoove.

Ladies (and Gentlemen), You Need You Some Austin
Dixon
A little while back I got a link to some really neat pop music
done by a really neat guy: Austin Dixon. He's in Las Vegas right
now and he does some great Weezer/Lucksmiths/Death Cab type of
stuff. We highly recommend his music. Right now the only source
for it is his Myspace
site, but look for big things from him in the future.

Unicorn Feather Record Release Party
The Unicorn Feather is finally having a formal-ish record release
for The Floating Parade, along with a record release
party that will be happening on September 1st at the Record Exchange
in Boise at 7 pm. He will also be featured in the Boise Weekly
the day before as well. The world will be a better place after
September 1st, mark my words. Also, take note of the following
unsolicited testimonial (also note that EJ is Elijah Jensen of
the Unicorn Feather):
EJ is the greatest single performer I have ever seen.
EJ made the crowd dance.
EJ had the highest dancer to crowd member ratio I have ever seen.
EJ made me weep.
I am weeping now because of EJ.
Everyone needs to see this EJ, and see what he does to you and
others when he does the things he does.
I felt like I was at Quinn's.
I honestly, honestly, felt like I was at Quinn's.
Thank you, EJ, for bringing the Quinn's. Thank you for your maximum
output.
EJ is the greatest.
Love,
Andrew
Peterson
What more can be said? The Unicorn Feather brings the Quinn's.
The Very Most Justice Tour!
The Very Most's Jeremy Jensen needs your help. He is being wrongfully
accused of the grave crime of Negligent Driving in the Second
Degree by Washington state, simply for going 17 mph over the speed
limit. It's a travesty and he won't let it stand. He received
this ticket near Prosser, Washington, and so will be playing a
show in the area (at Espresso World in Kennewick
on August 29th at 7 pm) the
night before his court date. This one show comprises the one-city
tour known as the "The Very Most Demands Justice!" Tour.
There will be t-shirts available, just like there is any time
there is a gross miscarriage of justice. All donations received
will go directly to Jeremy's legal defense fund.

On February 19th, we (meaning The Very Most, Unicorn Feather, and Bonefish Sam and His Power Orchestra) will be playing Cafe Del Sol. New Boise Bomb Shelter Basement Site!
As some of you may know, the various Coming In Second principles, like Bonefish Sam and the Unicorn Feather, are kind of co-running a new performance space: the Boise Bomb Shelter Basement. Unicorn Feather Album, Tour!
The Unicorn Feather's new album, The Floating Parade is available for order through this website. We're really, really excited about this, as it is the culmination of years of work and love. You've got songs that range from straight up pop/folk/dance to the breathtakingly beautiful, soft and tender declarations of loss and reflection. Anyone with a heart, spine, and spleen will find something to love on this record. In case my flowery promotional copy hasn't convinced you, take a listen to their MP3s.

Tuba City!
We are quite pleased to announce that Coming In Second will be releasing Bonefish Sam and His Power Orchestra's long-delayed opus Tuba City. We don't know exactly when that will happen, but it should be relatively soon. Bonefish has had this record in the can for quite some time, and it's some of this best work yet. It's rumored that the covers will be handmade, tuba-based, linoleum prints.
Weekend Shows Re-Cap
Friday and Saturday two significant things happened: the current Very Most lineup played their last show together for a long time, and Elijah unveiled his new live rockin' strategy.
To tackle the former first, Rachael of the Very Most is moving to Portland, Oregon. Jeremy will soldier on without her, with the aid of some newly acquired gear. You'll see. Also, he's considering playing inside a couch fort. In any case, Rachael will be a sorely missed part of the Very Most for her unmatched voice, steady keyboardin', and her sassy, sassy dancing.
On a happier note, Elijah played a lot of new songs, mostly to the accompaniment of a CD player, and they're all really good. The fact that Elijah is only singing, and not playing guitar, facilitates some rather funky dancing on his part. Parties break out, and the joint jumps. This boy is a star, plain and simple. Watch for more Elijah Jensen news in the near future, especially since he now has his own domain, which brings me to:
The Very Most and Elijah Jensen Get Their Own Domains
Over the weekend, I discovered that domains these days are going
for dirt, dirt cheap. Therefore, www.theverymost.com,
and www.elijahjensen.com
now point to their individual band pages on this site. We may
have something more extensive up later, but, for now, isn't it
nice to know that you only have to remember the band's name, and
not the label's? It's these little touches that highlight Coming
In Second's devotion to their loyal customers, um, I mean fans.

Jason Anderson Recording Session
Last weekend, the head Wolf Colonel himself, Jason Anderson, dropped by to make a CDEP for Coming in Second. Three days later, we've recorded a full-length record, and two days later, we find out it's coming out on K Records. Amazing! We're so excited about this record, and it was really, really fun to make. Rachael sung on more than half of the tracks, and I contributed upright bass, percussion and guitar. Between recording sessions we made fun of each other, watched Simpsons DVDs, blamed George Bush for everything bad in the world, and danced to Billy Joel's The Stranger. What a kool time!
Bonefish Sam Video Update

Making the Case for Me Demos!
In the process of creating Making the Case for Me I created some demos with cheap drum machines, less than stellar singing, and lots of heart. In an effort to use all of the space alloted me by my web hosting company, I've decided to upload these to the Audio page. Enjoy, but please don't judge the final album based on these little diamonds in the ruff. These demos are to be enjoyed responsibly, like the beer companies are constantly saying about beer.

The Very Most Press Update
The Very Most, as part of the media blitz that has accompanied the release of Making the Case for Me, will be featured in the Boise Weekly's "Noise" column this week. The interview was quite enjoyable and I suspect it will result in a fairly bitchin' article. Look for that on the newsstand on January 21st.
Also, the Idaho Statesman will be reprinting the Very Most article that originally appeared in Thrive, so look for that as well if you missed it the first time around.
The Very Most Show Recap
Our shows last week were some of our best ever. At the Neurolux on the 14th, we played with seven other bands, including Lovey, Booth Sitter, and You Might Die. This was my first time hearing You Might Die, and they rawked the attendees thoroughly and consistently. A lovely, drunken time was had by most, and Rachael learned the joys of singing through a good sound system. At the House of 5 Fountains, we played with the incomparable Kris Doty (one of our bestest buddies) and Andrew Kaffer of Kissing Book fame. We played a good set and never hesitated to push the crowd-please button when necessary. All in all, a very productive week for the Very Most.
Next month we expect to play a few more shows, including a possible show at a charter high school dance in Nampa. You know you've finally "arrived" when you're "invited" into the prestigious charter "school" "circuit".

The Very Most's New Record Now Available from our Mail Order
Although, it is not yet available in stores, Making the Case
for Me is now available from our mail order. This record is
the culmination of over three years of effort, and it pawps (which
bears the same resemblance to "pop" as "rawk" bears to "rock")
intelligently, thoroughly, and proactively. Add
it to your shopping cart, or risk living the rest of your
ugly, miserable life alone, and probably with some sort of awful
degenerative disease. Just kidding. But you should buy it, because
it's really good.
Mt. Eerie Defeats the Gods of Bad Boise Shows
Last night, we were all set to start setting up at the Boise
Cafe, when disaster struck: a gas leak closed the Cafe, leaving
us with no place to play. So, we decided to host the show at Coming
in Second HQ. We ran to the nearby record store to borrow some
paper to make a sign to inform everyone, found Phil and Nika there,
and started getting the house ready.
Everyone played really well, despite the venue change. Lowbelly brought the rawk, The Very Most brought the pawp (This word needs to be in the indie-rock lexicon. Please use it as often as you can), Nikaidoh Kazumi was absolutely breathtakingly amazing, and Phil, as always, was wonderful. What a night!

Karl Blau, Gift Machine, R Heroz Show Goes Off Without a Hitch
The show at 405 Ada last night was a corker. Karl Blau was wonderful, the Gift Machine rawked, and R Heroz was great, despite some technical difficulties. Also unveiled was the Unicorn Feather, a spoken word/soul/acapella project by Elijah from R Heroz. Funktastic!
R Heroz Relocates to Georgia, USA
Elijah from R Heroz will shortly be relocating to Georgia for a non-music related job opportunity. We wish him well, and we can't wait to hear what the humidity and proximity to peach orchards will do to his future recordings. I, for one, think it will janglify them by, say, 12 percent.

Utopian levels, and ensure a 105 percent voter turnout this November.
Jeremy has not yet decided what song to include on the compilation.
In addition, Jeremy will be mastering the compilation at his

the compilation will include a track from Doug Martsch,
whose potential effect on the global political climate is unknown.

The Very Most Complete New Record
After three years of blood, sweat, toil, and naked ambition,
The Very Most
have finished Making the Case For Me, their masterpiece.
Right now, it's going to Mr. Toad's in San Francisco, where an
excellent mastering engineer, Tardon Feathered
(that's his real name), will finesse Jeremy's mixes and unleash
the obnoxious chart-topper in each and every one of them. Watch
out, Clipse!
After the record gets mastered, it's off to the duplication plant to be made lots and lots and lots of times. You should be able to get it from us by Thanksgiving, and you should see it in stores in time to do your Christmas shopping.
G. America Available in CIS Store, Again
In 1999 or 2000, our friend Grant Olsen recorded a classic record, one rarely eclipsed by anyone, let alone anyone 'round these parts. That record was called Fake Fun. The Very Most Continue Making the Case for Themselves
Jeremy is continuing work on his record, Making the Case for
Me, which should be ready for Christmas. He is putting the
finishing touches on the mixes, and will be sending it off to
be mastered and duplicated as soon he's finished.
This record is Jeremy's most accomplished yet, with songs ranging
from acoustic, faux-faux-country indie pop to driving, organ-driven
Spectoresque orchestrations. There is a song for everyone on this
record, unless you enjoy funk-punk, rap-rock, rock-funk, klezmer,
or klezmer-funk-rap. Lots of folks helped him out, including Rachael
Jensen, Bonefish Sam, Ritchey and Jona of the Badger King, Joe
Hensley of Suffocation Keep, Lori and Sam of Central Boise Library,
and others. We will, of course, keep you updated on how it's coming
along.
Dennis Driscoll/R Heroz/The Very Most Show Recap
The show last night exceeded all musical, social, and fiduciary expectations. Thanks to all who came. Thanks also to Boise Cafe, who let us have the show in their lovely establishment.
The Very Most did really well, despite having only briefly practiced,
and R Heroz was spectacular. Debuting as a two-piece last night,
they stunned the audience with their vocal enchantment and guitar
and keyboard awe. Those guys need to get on the road and show
the country what they're made of. I'll work on this. Stay tuned.
Next came Dennis. What a charmer! His finger-picked electric guitar and sweet vocal caresses soothed, entertained, and wowed. Thanks for coming down, Dennis!

The CIS Website is Black, I Mean Back
Should I be launching the new website on this date? I guess I'll have my answer if the president somehow uses Coming In Second to justify an invasion of Garden City. I sure hope this is just a coincidence.
Well, the first bit of news is obvious, since you're staring it in the mug right now. For the first time in over a year, Coming In Second has a current website. I have to apologize for that. I've been a little busy with school and raising my daughter and recording a record and searching for the ever-elusive Northwest Passage. We have a new message board, a new store, new band pages, a new crazed rant and new links. Oooooo, links.
Thanks to Joel Wallace (aka Bonefish Sam) for creating the nifty border graphics used on this site.
CIS Has "Restructured."
The next bit of news involves our new roster. It's quite simple: R Heroz and The Very Most. R Heroz is the newest project from Elijah Jensen, of Pajama Party in a Haunted Hive fame. The Very Most is Jeremy Jensen and all the talented people he is fortunate enough to know. Both of these brothers are making the best music of their lives and, luckily, they now have a decent studio to spend as much time recording as their schedules will allow them. Look for The Very Most's Making the Case For Me around Christmas time, and R Heroz's new record shortly thereafter.
Dennis Driscoll Brings Light, Truth to Local Eatery
The entire CIS roster (R Heroz, The Very Most, and Jailhouse Snacks) will be joining Dennis Driscoll, the excellent K Records artiste. His latest record was meticulously manipulated and crafted in a studio with a multi-million dollar computer-automated recording console and $10,000 microphones by the Neptunes and Jermaine Dupri. No wait, that was Clipse's latest record. In any case, the show is on September 16th at the Boise Cafe at 8:00. The cover is $3.
